About Dead Till Tuesday

Dead Till Tuesday is the latest musical incarnation of Brooklyn born songwriter and producer Joe Pepitone (formerly a member of electro-pop rockers The Switch and Circles for Hearts). Drawing on a set of influences as diverse as his Big Apple roots, Joe cast the mold for the music in early 2008 by combining elements of Rock, Indie, Electronic, New Wave, Hip Hop and Pop in true genre smashing fashion. Dead Till Tuesday quickly took form with energetic, catchy tunes that evoke memories of Joy Division, The Cure, Depeche Mode and The Smiths.
Joe's love for music began at a very young age. "I started playing piano, completely by ear at 5 years old," he says. A studious and academic childhood spent in the bosom of the 99th percentile and weekly piano lessons soon gave way to rock 'n roll. "My thunderbolt moment was seeing Slash rise out of the water in the video from 'Estranged'. At that point, I was effectively ruined for life. I grabbed my dad's guitar, which was collecting dust in the closet and hijacked it. From then on, I spent all my time playing along to Nirvana, Green Day and Alice In Chains records."
In the years that followed, Joe expanded his musical horizons, immersing himself in electronic music and writing the songs that would become Dead Till Tuesday. "Standing in the middle of the dance floor at Twilo, listening to Paul van Dyk, or Sasha and Digweed will teach you the power of a 909 kick drum." His close encounter with the new digital sounds also brought back a flood of early childhood music memories. "My cousin used to blast things like New Order or Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam while she did her hair. I will forever associate 'Head to Toe' with the smell of Aquanet."
With an army of songs in hand Joe sought out the best talent to help bring the performances alive. There was no need to look very far; his brother, Matt, was an obvious choice for synths and keyboards. "We come from a line of Vaudeville performers and concert violinists. It runs in the blood." Joe and Matt already had a childhood of experience playing music together. "As kids, we would compose ridiculous songs about the dog or the neighbors across the way. Little inside jokes set to song. In fact, we still do it to this day." Matt's stage experience certainly helps too: he's appeared off-Broadway in Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. Joining the brothers on rhythm guitar is Pheroze, a fellow Brooklynite and formidable musician in his own right.
Winning awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and a 2nd Place finish in the New Jersey Shows Battle of the Bands in 2006 with The Switch, Joe is no stranger to the music scene. Since his first gig at CBGB at the tender young age of 16, Joe has played at such venues as the Knitting Factory and Starland Ballroom.
The end of 2009 saw Dead Till Tuesday record an EP with multi platinum producer Mark Saunders. Mark's work with artists such as The Cure, Depeche Mode and Erasure made him an ideal partner. Look for the record, "What's That Sound?" to be released in mid-March 2010.
